The ABTL Report, Co-Edited By GMSR Partner Robin Meadow, Presents A Comprehensive Analysis Of Civility.

“As an officer of the court, I will strive to conduct myself at all times with dignity, courtesy and integrity.”
—California Attorney Oath, effective May 2014

Most older lawyers probably don’t know that civility is now a requirement imposed by the Attorney Oath.  Nor do most lawyers know that cooperation is mandated by the Code of Civil Procedure.  (Lasalle v. Vogel (2019) 36 Cal.App.5th 127.)  But they will learn these things and much more if they read the Summer 2019 issue of the ABTL Report, just published by the Los Angeles Chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers.

The issue presents 11 articles by lawyers and judges on all aspects of the perennial problem of lawyer incivility—what it is, what causes it, and what to do about it.  GMSR partner Robin Meadow, along with Horvitz & Levy partner John F. Querio, are the ABTL Report’s co-editors and were principally responsible for assembling the materials.

The report is also featured on the website of the American Law Institute (ALI), which develops and publishes the Restatements of the Law, Model Codes, and Principles of Law.  ALI highlights articles by two of its members, Court of Appeal Justice Lee Edmon and Superior Court Judge Carolyn Kuhl.
