Success On Appeal In Section 1983 Cases—GMSR’s Tim Coates & Ted Xanders To Appear In Washington D.C. At IMLA’s 2022 Mid-Year Seminar

GMSR is proud to sponsor, and take part in, the International Municipal Lawyers Association’s (IMLA) 2022 Mid-Year Seminar taking place in Washington, D.C. (and online) from April 8-11, 2022.

The IMLA is one of the foremost organizations serving the needs of attorneys representing governmental entities across a broad spectrum of practice.  GMSR is one of the nation’s leading civil appellate law firms in representing and partnering with public entities in the state and federal appellate courts.

On Friday, April 8 at 1:00 pm, partner Tim Coates—who will receive an Amicus Service Award—and co-managing partner Ted Xanders will present Section 1983: Success on Appeal in Section 1983 Cases.  Their presentation will:

  • Provide practice pointers, strategy and guidance on addressing some of the unique issues that arise in litigating qualified immunity, and Monell liability; and
  • Address the merits of constitutional issues on appeal in section 1983 cases.

Tim and Ted will also host a “WONK” breakfast table on Sunday morning from 7:45-8:45 am.  The topic of discussion: Best practices in opposing and reducing attorney fee claims by successful plaintiffs in section 1983 litigation.
