Kent Toland has briefed cases in both the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the California Court of Appeal, and has argued before the California Court of Appeal.
Kent handles a wide range of subject matters on appeal, including commercial real estate, personal injury, insurance coverage, premises liability, writs of attachment, and anti-SLAPP motions.
Kent also collaborates with trial counsel before and during trial to protect clients’ interests and preserve the record for a potential appeal, including advising on dispositive motions, jury instructions, and special verdict forms.
As part of his practice, Kent enjoys volunteering pro bono. In 2025, Kent joined a team of GMSR attorneys to file an amicus brief in the Ninth Circuit advocating for providing housing to homeless veterans at the Veterans Administration’s West Los Angeles campus.
Before joining GMSR, Kent was a litigator at a midsize California law firm. That in-the-trenches experience gave him a robust understanding of all phases of litigation, and makes him well-situated to advise clients and trial counsel on preserving issues for appeal.
Outside of his legal practice, Kent enjoys exploring national parks, reading history, biking along the coast, and spending time with his wife and children.
