Tim Coates appointed California State Co-Chair for the International Municipal Lawyers Association

(LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, December 9, 2019) Tim Coates, Managing Partner at the appellate law firm of Greines, Martin, Stein & Richland LLP, headquartered in Los Angeles, was appointed Co-Chair of the International Municipal Lawyers Association’s California State Region.

The International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) confirmed the election of the 2019-2020 board during the recent Annual Conference. IMLA’s President Patrick Baker, City Attorney for Charlotte North Carolina, appointed Tim Coates as California State Co-Chair along with San Jose City Attorney Richard Doyle. They will serve for a one-year term and may be re-elected or re-appointed to successive terms. Generally, their role is to act in an advisory capacity to the Board on matters of policy, programs and membership – including identifying and referral of cases to the Legal Advocacy Committee through the Executive Director, and expansion of membership.

Tim was honored to accept the appointment, stating: “My work over the past several years with IMLA staff and members has been personally and professionally rewarding.  I look forward to encouraging local public entities and municipal attorneys throughout California to join IMLA in advancing the interests of local governments and helping them address the common problems they face in serving their citizens.”

Tim has represented municipalities in appellate courts across the United States, including six victories in the United States Supreme Court.

IMLA is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the interests and education of local government lawyers. IMLA champions the development of fair and realistic legal solutions, and assists members in addressing the vast range of cutting-edge legal issues facing local government lawyers today.
