Briefs: Representing Appellants
Colome v. State Athletic Com. (1996) 47 Cal.App.4th 1444
07/29/1996
Authored by
Martin Stein
Practice Area: Government Liability California Court of Appeal
The Court of Appeal reversed a $1.3 million verdict in favor of a boxer against the State Athletic Commission and physicians who had denied the boxer a license on the basis of a medical examination. It held the claims were barred because the Commission had sovereign immunity, and the Commission employees and physicians were entitled to statutory immunity for licensure decisions and medical examinations for purposes other than treatment.
